Living in a sandwich
“We are living in a sandwhich” is the way we have explained to our kids our new living situation. We live below the library, above a lecture room and another apartment and next to some dorm rooms and another lecture room. Since living in a house is all our kids have ever known the idea of ‘noise may bother others around us’ has never really been part of their thought patterns. We are learning (and probably not doing a great job at it quite yet) to go through our days a little more quietly. But how do we teach that without constant ‘NOs’? I was so glad when Markus came up with the sandwich idea; the kids love it and are of course very proud to be in the middle - the best part of the sandwich. While we are still working on becoming a little more quiet, it has not been a negative at all and quite often Naomi will remind us (still in her very loud voice) “Mommy, daddy remember, we are living in a sandwich”.

Hi Markus & Julia,We enjoy reading your blog especialy the photo's of you and the 3 beautiful little girls. How we long to meet them!Have you ever tried to put a cork back on a champagne bottle??Well, that is about as difficult as to tell the little ones to be quite in a 'sandwich'!...you have all my simpathy.No. Iam only joking..nothing is impossible and you thought of a wonderful solution.
We just want to let you know that you,Julia & the girls are in always in our prayers.May the Lord bless you in your work for His glory.
Lots of love,
O Deon & T Petra.

Frank,
Thanks for writing. While I will be teaching and given chapel messages mostly in German, I'm not exactly sure what the German word for "sandwich" is. Maybe "belegtes Broetchen," but this would only apply to a roll.
We hope to have pictures up soon. A pretzel will be included since here in the south is pretzel country.
Christmas blessings to you and your family!

Hi, Markus and Julia! Glad you are safely installed in the sandwich! (Was ist Deutsch fur "sandwich"?) It'll be fun to see some picture of you all around the townsite, maybe one with a pretzel and the bakery! Are you teaching and giving your chapel message in German as well? I have forgotten what you committment is there in that regard. I think it is. Christmas in Germany should be lots of fun. Blessings!
