About the Akademie für Weltmission
The Akademie für Weltmission (Academy for World Mission) is a unique institution on the landscape of theological education. Founded 30 years ago by a number German and Swiss evangelical missionary organizations (AEM), the intention was to have a place where missionaries could receive the specialized academic training necessary for successful ministry on the field. Along these lines, attention was given to provide graduates with an internationally recognized degree at a Master of Arts (M.A.) level in partnership with an American university. To this end a partnership was formed with Columbia International University in Columbia, South Carolina. Though initially students were required to complete one semester at the SC campus, in recent years, the AWM has become fully accredited allowing students pursuing an M.A. to do the entirety of their training in Germany. In addition to the M.A., students can also choose to do a certificate program, an Master of Divinity degree (M.Div.), and soon will be able to pursue a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in international theological education.
Since 1985 the AWM has been located in Korntal, Germany, a small town on the NW corner of Stuttgart (see our post "finding Korntal"). Today, AWM alumni are serving in over 80 countries around the world.
